The customer in Barnes rang because they couldn't open their front door, the bottom part in particular. After gaining entry non-destructively, the gearbox was found to be damaged and the bottom hook case was virtually hanging off. The gearbox and hook case were changed and the door was back in working order.

A failing door gearbox usually gives some warning first: a handle that gets heavier to lift, a door that needs a lift-and-shove to lock, or a latch that stops catching properly. Replacing the gearbox itself is normally all that is needed.
