A Window That Will Not Open

Do not force the handle of a window that will not open; if the mechanism has failed, forcing it can break the handle or damage the frame. The window can usually be released from the locking side without damage, and the mechanism is then replaced so it opens and locks normally.

Locking, Closing and Handles

A window that will not lock usually has a fault in the gearbox or the locking points along its edge; one that will not close tightly usually has worn hinges. A handle with a lost key is replaced with a new one and key. For glass that has misted, see misted double glazing in Boldon.
