Recent Work in the Washington Area
Genuine jobs we have completed in the Washington area, of any kind (not necessarily emergency locksmith work):
- Door Realignment in Washington: The composite door was rubbing along the threshold and hard to open and close; the frame was warped, so a perfect realignment was not possible, but the door was realigned into good working order.
- Window Mechanism Repair in Washington (Window Mechanisms): A faulty mechanism stopped the window opening. It was opened without damage, the mechanism was changed, and the window worked correctly again.

Lockouts: Keys Inside, Keys Posted, Keys Lost
Where your keys are decides the job. If they are inside the house, the door is opened without damage and the lock stays as it is. If they are lost, the door is opened and the lock is changed as well, so the lost keys cannot be used.
Lockouts we have dealt with elsewhere in our area, each labelled with where it happened:
- Spare keys inside — Murton. The customer was locked out with spare keys in the house; non-destructive entry got him back in. See the job
- Keys posted through the door — Chester-le-Street. Entry was gained non-destructively and the keys picked up from the floor; no new lock was needed. See the job
- Front door keys lost — Pallion. The door was opened non-destructively and a new anti-snap lock fitted. See the job

A Snapped Key, or a Key That Will Not Turn
A key that breaks in the lock usually leaves part of the blade inside the cylinder. It can normally be drawn out without removing the lock, but pushing at it, or trying the other half of the key, tends to drive it further in. Leave it and call.
A key that goes in but will not turn is different: the cylinder or the mechanism behind it has failed, and the door may still be locked shut. Either way, once you are in the faulty part is replaced, and if keys have been lost the new cylinder means the old ones no longer work.
A Door That Will Not Lock, or Has Been Forced
Being unable to lock up is an emergency in its own right if the property cannot be left. The cause is usually a failed cylinder or a gearbox in a uPVC or composite door; either can be replaced so the door locks again.
After a break-in or an attempt, the door or window is made lockable first and then strengthened. See burglary repairs in Washington for what that involves.
